A2042

The first clip I chose was A2042 a short film about a police officer having a panic attack in the middle of the street due to rioting around him. I really like this short film as it has a big message and impact in such a short length of time. The start of the short film is close up just on the man's face you can see no background nor hear any noise except his heavy breathing. This tells the audience nothing about the atmosphere around him and what the rest of him physically looks like. This causes suspense as the audience could be expecting anything and this is what also kept me watching it as I wanted to see why this man is having a panic attack in the middle of the street. After about 30 seconds into it then you start to hear sound effects of a rapid heart beat, showing that this man is panicking. As an audience we feel very sympathetic towards this man. About 53 seconds into A2042 it has zoomed out to a medium shot and as a audience you start to see he is wearing some sort of uniform and as it zooms out more your see the uniform has the word 'POLICIA' which means police. As the audience, this then really grabbed my attention as it is not a stereo typical police man and I wanted to know why he was panicking and why he was sitting on the floor. I wanted the answers to a lot of questions.

After that all my questions were answered as noises of shouting, bottles shattering, the sound of fire started to get louder and louder. The medium shot keeps zooming out until it becomes a wide shot to reveal a blue flashing light, a knocked over bin, smashed glass, running people. This finally shows the audience that the police man is panicking in the middle of a riot and this is quite a shocking and sad image. I really like A2042 as it is a very short but shocking short film and it has a very deep meaning which was portrayed in just 90 seconds.

Salt

Another 90 second film I liked was Salt, about an old married couple which seems to have some tension and as the woman is poring salt into their stew the man slams his spoon down, scaring the woman. The woman then accidentally pours a lot of salt into the stew. After she has given the man his stew, he says something which shocks the woman and is sweet and unexpected. I really like the short film Salt as it has a happy effect on me. In the first shot you see the woman chopping up vegetables and the man walking into the kitchen and washing his hands. This is all done in silence just with the sound effects of the woman chopping. The man sits down and reads a news paper and the woman keeps preparing the stew. In a wide shot you can see the little kitchen they are in is very small. As an audience there is a lot of tension and awkwardness, like they have had an argument and are just tolerating each other.

The man scares the woman by throwing his spoon in his bowl and as he does this the woman is pouring salt in the stew. The shock causes her to pour a lot of salt in the stew. A close up shows the woman's facial expressions and it shows she isn't happy and a bit angry as she looks at the man she feels more angry and decides to pour more salt into the stew. For the audience this is quite comical and is also why I really like Salt as it breaks up the tension with a comical scene.

As she gives the man his stew his reaction is unsuspected. He tries the stew and it goes to a close up of his face and he swallows the stew in his mouth, this is again is quite a comical scene. He then says to the woman 'you not eating' she says 'no' then shockingly he says back to her 'it's a pity! it's very delicious'. As an audience we know he is lying but we are very shocked he said it and so is the women from the tension that has been portrayed right from the start. The woman then grabs herself a bowl and sits down. Then in a medium shot the man and woman start laughing together so the tension is lifted and the audience feel happy and kind of laugh with the pair. I like Salt a lot due to the story line but also the way different shots are used from close ups to medium shots you really follow the emotion of characters.

Cool unicorn Bruv

Cool unicorn bruv is a comedy about a young teenager trying to sell his bike but the boy who is trying to sell it to get's a little distracted. The distraction is a unicorn. Cool unicorn bruv is funny as it takes cool young teenagers and mixes them with a mystical animal, two things that you would never think would cross. I really like this 90 second film due to the comical aspect of it the language they use is full of slang, so to hear them talking about a unicorn and it shooting out rainbows it strange and comical.

The start of Cool unicorn bruv starts with a wide shot of two boys with a bike a quite dark buildings around them. This is to give the audience a different idea to what the mini film is going to turn into. It then goes to a close up of there faces and then to a medium shhot as one of then starts talking about his bike and all the features to has like it spring and bell. The mise-en-scene is very interesting as you have this quite common young men and this dark background but overall the language and acting is perpetrated in a over dramatic and funny way. There then is another wide short of a young man holding a unicorn with people walking around in the background not dazed at the unicorn. There then is many short reverse shots to show the constant conversation.

They talk in very slang language  and it is very comical to hear them talking even showing off this unicorn. The short reverse shoes also show the boy with the bike trying to compare his bike to the unicorn and the others ignore him. We even have a few close ups of his face showing how frustrated he is, as he nows the unicorn is better then his bike. Towards the end we have a constant wide shot showing the boy and the unicorn walking away and everyone not dazed by this. In a wide shot we also have the boy walking away from the boy with the bike as he sees the bike pathetic compared to this amazing unicorn.
